Antique Wedding Band

by Grace Moore

Sometimes there is nothing more romantic than a wedding band with a history. Not only does an antique wedding band provide elegant design that sometimes cannot be found in today's jewelry stores, but it comes with the knowledge of the marriage before it. An antique ring links the wearer with a bygone era that can be romanticized until it's as beautiful and inspiring as the ring itself.

To find an authentic antique wedding band, you will have to visit a specialty store, an estate sale, or an online specialty site. Typical jewelry stores do not deal in antique bands. It is also important to deal with a reputable company so that you do not end up buying something that is not antique or authentic. It is always a good idea to have the ring appraised after purchase to verify its worth.

Popular styles of antique rings include Edwardian, Victorian, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco. These rings are almost always made from platinum and white gold, making them very popular in today's market. The general price of an antique wedding band is very hard to pinpoint because of the variations in period and design. However, it is not likely that you will find any antique bands for less than several hundred dollars. Each band will be one of a kind, making it that much more valuable.

Antique wedding bands will almost always have to be sized to fit the new wearer. It is important that you visit an experienced jeweler to resize the ring since antique rings will often be delicate and ornate. You want to make sure that this piece of history is in capable hands. Antique jewelry is unique cannot be replaced, much like your future partner.
