Reading Tarot Cards

by Grace Moore

Reading tarot cards can be a complicated task. The reader must have a through understanding and knowledge of all of the cards and their meanings. The reader must also be able to deduce meaning from different combinations of cards relating to an individual's issues. However, learning to read tarot is accessible to anyone with an interest and access to the internet or books on the subject.

When you read tarot cards, you must start with a deck of your choice. There are hundreds available today with emphasis on different themes. After you have purchased your deck of choice, it is recommended that you "flavor" your cards by sleeping with the enclosed cards placed near your heart or under you pillow for a week. This will prepare the cards to be read by you.

Once the week is up, the cards are ready to be read. While you focus on the question that you want an answer to, shuffle the cards just like you would with modern day playing cards. Some people will also make a large pile with the cards and mix them around on the table before they organize them into a neat pile.

There are several different tarot formations that can be used when you deal the cards. For people who are just starting out, using a simple four card diamond shaped spread might be the easiest. When you deal the cards, lay them out face up. The first card at the top of the diamond represents romantic life. The second card on the right side of the diamond represents money, the third card on the bottom of the diamond stands for health and happiness, and the forth card on the left of the diamond, represents career. If you do not know the meaning and symbolism related to each card that you draw, there are several guides available to assist you until you become familiar with them.
