Increase Testosterone

by Monique Krape

In order to increase testosterone levels in the body, some may prefer to look at non-medical procedures before taking the step of hormone replacement therapy. It is thought that the body may need more regular exercise, a break from alcohol consumption, lowered stress levels, and a change in diet that limits the amount of meat and poultry being consumed. Another method is light therapy. Research is showing that exposure to bright light can impact male hormone production, and generate other results similar to those found in patients taking a more medical route to increase testosterone levels.

There are several hormone replacement therapies that provide a means to increase the level of testosterone in the body. These procedures use supplements and a variety of delivery or application systems. The most common methods used today are hormone injections, pellets, pills, gels, and creams. Each method has unique advantages and disadvantages, risks and side effects, and should be thoroughly studied prior to implementation.

The first application for testosterone supplements was oral. This method proved inefficient as the body absorbed the testosterone from the intestine much too quickly, allowing the liver to break it down into ineffective parts. This understanding led to the advancements in delivery systems used today. The supplements are now delivered to the blood stream more directly, completely bypassing the liver.

The use of testosterone injections is one of the oldest applications. The hormone is injected into muscle, and absorbed directly into the blood stream. The advantages of using an injection delivery is the time between each dose is two to four weeks, sometimes longer, and the cost is nominal. Another perceived benefit, although somewhat controversial, is the energy boost a recipient feels immediately upon receiving the injection. This rush is often linked to feelings of increased strength and vitality, aggressiveness and confidence.
