Scotland Golf Package

by Shirley Parker

A Scotland Golf Package has many advantages for the golfing visitor. Some service providers arrange for luxury tours, while others have the contacts and experience to work with a variety of budget needs. If the traveler wants to play on all nine golf courses within reach of Inverness, for example, he can. If he wants to test his skills first at one of the four championship grade courses in Glasgow, followed by the top-rated three in Aberdeen, that desire can be arranged.

One thing to remember is that some golf courses are for men only. Since some golfers may travel as a family group, this can be an irritation. Others, however, travel in larger parties, so be sure to ask in advance whether female friends or co-workers will be banned, or relegated to specific days. In the latter case, an experienced packager can make all needed arrangements to accommodate everyone within his or her allotted vacation span in the area. The tour arranger will know if the ladies can play on the same course where the men want to compete.

Arranging starting times can be difficult, as tee times can rarely be guaranteed, for a range of reasons that may even include the weather. (Usually, it means that members of local golf clubs have booked starting times a year in advance, but hotels often have their own excellent golf courses.) Golfers anywhere are not often fazed by vagaries of wind and rain; they have even been seen slogging through flooded golf courses. In Scotland, weather has to be brutal to cancel a game, so bring along or purchase warm sweaters and raingear.
