Scotland Golf Tour
Scotland Golf ClubA Scottish Golf Club often has an impressively comfortable clubhouse and other, luxurious or ornate accommodations nearby. Whatever type of course(s) a Scottish golf club has, the members maintain it lovingly, and they follow strict rules for how the links are run. From Turnberry in the south to Dornoch in the north, the clubs and nearly 500 golf courses provide every sort of challenge and satisfaction to most levels of golfers. Golf courses in Scotland are not always the typical American type with lush fairways, perfectly manicured greens, sculpted sand traps, and ornamental water hazards. In Scotland, golfers may hit through whins (another name for spiny gorse or furze) and heather, instead of encountering fast greens. Natural sea hazards and sand dunes may replace the artificial kind, and golfers play against the wind and weather. If anyone has watched television coverage of golf tournaments played on the old courses in Scotland, some courses still appear to be part wilderness, with the ground looking bare, or scrubby and rocky. Others have fairways lined by beautiful old silver birches, or maybe by rows of Scots pine trees. These are wonderful to look at, but a hook or a slice shot may get a player in deep trouble. Even a draw or a fade can result in a ball stuck in a tree, requiring that special rules be followed to continue playing. Around The Golf ClubTraveling relatives, who indulge in sightseeing instead of playing golf, have wonderful vistas of oceans and hills, or mountains and lochs. Flocks of sheep graze on the hillsides to produce all that wonderful wool that stocks the stores with marvelous kilts, tartans, sweaters, and socks. In the highlands, snow is expected, and it falls heavily every winter. However, skies often sparkle, with nary a cloud in sight. ![]() Get all Golf articles via
