Yosemite Lodging

by Meghann Mason

The Lodging in Yosemite ranges from canvas tents to luxurious old world elegance. All of the lodgings offer special histories that positively add to the already spectacular stay. All of the following properties are run by the National Park Service.

The Awahnee $$$$

Built in 1927, this is the architectural symbol for Yosemite; it is a living museum. It is a combo of German Gothic and California craftsman styles. If you cannot afford to stay, you can still enjoy the great room and the lobbies for several hours.
**Tour: Free guided tours of the hotel daily.

Yosemite Lodge at the Falls $$-$$$$

Landscaped with natural flora and fauna, Yosemite Lodge is more mountain lodge like. There are 245 rooms, from rustic cabins to motel-style rooms with or without private baths. It is booked 90% of the year. The Lodge is conveniently located for all valley activities.

Curry Village $-$$

Located under Glacier Point and established in 1899, Curry Village is host to thousands of memories of family trips! Curry Village contains 628 units scattered under the trees. They include motel rooms, wood cabins, and canvas tents. It is also the headquarters for outdoor recreation in the Valley.

Wawona Hotel $$-$$$$

Built in 1875 by the Clark brothers, the Wawona was the first resort hotel in California--an early Victorian style vacation resort that is still in operation today. It is accessible year round for camping, sightseeing, hiking and skiing. The Mariposa Grove of Big Trees is located here--the largest of the 3 Sequoia groves. It contains more than 600 sequoias, some more than 2000 years old.

House Keeping Camp $

Great for the camper who loves to camp, just don't set up your own tent or sleep on the ground! Bring your own linens, dishes, cooking equipment and food. It is conveniently located within walking distance of all major attractions and it's on the Valley shuttle route. The camp offers 266 tent cabins that are close together, yet it is an inexpensive way to "camp" out in Yosemite.

Tolumne Meadows Lodge $

This is a Summer-only lodge. It offers 69 canvas-sided cabins with concrete floors, no electricity or plumbing, and no phones. There are centrally located showers and restrooms. Tolumne Meadows Lodge is very basic, friendly, and most of all fun!

White Wolf Lodge $-$$

This is also a Summer-only lodge. It contains 28 tent cabins and 4 cabins with a private bath. It is the headquarters to the high country trails during the summer. There are Ranger-led programs and events to look forward to such as nature walks, campfires with stories and music, as well as hikes and much more.
