Palm Beach Garden

In the 1960s, John D. MacArthur founded a city in Palm Beach County called Palm Beach Garden. He wanted this city to be a place for people to live and raise a family. Mostly, he wanted the residents of the 4000-acre community to live out the American dream. What was once acre upon acre of dairy cattle grazing land is now exactly what MacArthur dreamed it would be, a place for families to enjoy and call home.

In the early stages of development, MacArthur invested millions of dollars to have trees line the city streets. Because he had such admiration for trees and nature, he made workers work around trees that had been standing for numerous years. He wanted the city to look new, yet untouched at the same time. He also incorporated churches of all faiths so everyone in the community would have a place of worship.

PGA Grounds Development

A few years later, in 1964, MacAurthur donated more than $2,000,000 towards golf courses and offices for the Professional Golfers Association (PGA). Eleven years later, the PGA moved in, and numerous PGA tournaments and World Cup events took place. Unfortunately, the relationship did not last. In 1972, the PGA moved, and today the property is know as BallenIsles.

For the past 40 years, Palm Beach Garden has continued to grow at a steady pace. It is still an excellent community and a great place to live. It is not difficult to figure out where Palm Beach Garden's slogan, "Growing together in the gardens" came from. It was MacArthur's dream of family togetherness and his love of nature that made it possible for families to enjoy this town for years to come.
