Stationary Exercise Bikes

by Julie DePalo

Using the Stationary Bike

A fear some of us face when considering purchasing a stationary exercise bike is that we will never use it. You will first need to make a commitment to yourself that you will improve your health and work toward your goals one day at a time. Once you have made the commitment, you are ready to begin your exercise journey.

Exercise bikes are a great investment that significantly improve your health and appearance. You can expect to pay between two hundred to two thousand dollars for a bike of your own. The cost will be significantly less if you buy your bike used. If you are in the market to purchase a second-hand bike, find one that hasn't been used often and is in excellent working condition.

How to Purchase the Right Bike

It's easy to look online or walk into a local equipment store, point and purchase. I can assure you, however, that there is a better way. Know what features you want and decide on a budget ahead of time. If you have an idea which type of stationary bike suits you, the decision should be painless.

If your house is like mine, you probably don't have the room for a gym downstairs. What I did was convert an upstairs bedroom into a home gym. For gyms that are upstairs, make sure your stationary bike is sturdy. Look for bikes that have a twenty-five to thirty pound front wheel and magnetic resistance. The sound will be much quieter for you and the rest of the family.
