by Julie DePalo

Exercising on an Upright Bike

Upright exercise bikes are used in spinning classes around the country. The targeted muscles that are used when utilizing an upright bike help you burn hundreds of calories every half hour. The upright exercise bike market is comprised of many types. Some are equipped with handlebars that move back and forth to target the top portion of your body. Others only target your lower body.

You are guaranteed an outstanding workout whichever upright bike you choose. Regardless of your fitness level, you can start to make improvements to your body with one short exercise session. Day by day, build up from five minutes, then ten and so on. Soon you can begin to set challenges for yourself, for example, you can ride one mile on Monday then two miles by Friday.

The beauty of having your upright bike at home is that you don't have to exercise in front of anyone. Many people are not comfortable being in a noisy gym and would prefer to sit on their bikes, watch TV and shed pounds at the same time. The fact that you can use your bike as your personal trainer is a huge bonus too.
