Fishing Vacation

by Monique Krape

When planning a fishing trip, keep in mind how many destinations are available, but don't let it overwhelm you. There are some basic guidelines that can help you choose options best suited to your needs. It is necessary to answer several key questions before making any reservations. First, think about the fish that most interest you. Where do they live? Do they migrate, and to where, from where? Some other practical matters you should consider include what season you plan on vacationing, the cost of airfare and accommodations, and how much time you have to spend on this trip. In answering these basic questions, a vacation package should be fairly easy to put together.

One option to consider when planning a fishing vacation is to use a fishing guide, or charter. An advantage found in the guided trip is that these packages often include a guide in the form of a charter captain. These guides will know the local waters and know where to find the fish. They are normally seasoned anglers, and can be helpful advising on fishing technique best suited for the area. The other conveniences of the guided trip can add up, making this an attractive package. Many charter companies include supplies and accessories in their price packages, such as tackle and bait. This leaves you the responsibility of sitting back and waiting for the fish to bite.

The fishing lodge is a wonderful way to experience a fishing vacation. Many of these accommodations are situated in beautiful settings, near to countless popular outdoor recreational spots. The duration of your stay can be from a day to a week, or more, and the lodge can offer the comforts of home. Many lodges will also offer guides to help you navigate the local waters, and find the fish you most want to catch. For the more adventurous types, check to see if a fly-in service to the more remote spots is available.

The fishing resort can be a perfect choice when planning a family vacation. These comprehensive packages can be planned to include not only the accommodations for beds, meals, and of course for fishing, but also extra services the whole family might enjoy. Some resorts reside in magnificent outdoor recreational locations, and offer the chance to take day hikes, biking trips, or even horseback riding.
