Kayak FishingKayak fishing offers unique challenges to the already demanding sport of fishing. An angler must find ways to maintain control of the kayak's and their own balance, while handling the line in an efficient manner. For many that opt for kayak fishing over other types, these challenges can be met head-on if the right choices are made while selecting the kayak. The versatility of a kayak brings the fishing experience to a whole new level. With a smaller vessel, anglers can reach environments that would be impassable with any larger boat, including shallow waters such as flats. When deciding on what kayak to use, keep in mind the manner of water and variety of fish that will be most pursued. Both of these factors can impact what kayak will best serve the angler's needs. With these parameters in mind it is possible to find a perfect-fit model of kayak for almost any fishing experience. There are many kayak styles and models available, but there are fewer that are designed to specifically serve as a fishing vessel. A Sit On Top (SOT) kayak is a preferable choice for several reasons. A SOT is basically a surfboard, with key modifications making it suitable for kayak fishing, including a system of drainage holes that allow breakwater to completely channel away from the kayak, leaving the angler free to concentrate less on balance and more on the fish. SOTs are lighter and shorter than many other models, thereby giving the angler an advantage as far as maneuverability is considered. In choosing a kayak, it is imperative that a survey of questions is first answered. These questions cover some basic areas of information that, in the long run, can make the experience of kayak fishing rewarding rather than frustrating. Recognizing body type is crucial when choosing a kayak. In order to perform, a kayak needs to support the body, thus freeing the angler to focus on the catch. Also, it is good to note what type of vehicle will be used to transport the kayak. Buying a brand-new, shiny kayak with dimensions making it impossible to load onto a motor scooter, for instance, is pointless. Indeed, the kayak should be accessible, sturdy, and easy to maneuver. ![]() Get all Fishing articles via
