Ojai Valley

by Jordan Weitz

The Ojai Valley, located only 90 miles from Los Angeles, has grown to become one of the most sought after getaway spots in all of California. Tourists flock to the area because of its illustrious beauty, culture and overall restful atmosphere. When people contemplate the Southern California countryside, many things come to mind. Some think of the ideal climate, others imagine its beaches, fine restaurants or brilliant hiking trails. Of course, it would be slanderous not to mention California's vineyards, thought to foster some of the world's finest wines.

Part of what makes the Ojai Valley truly special is that it embodies all of Southern California's graces. As such, it has, for many, become the quintessential getaway for Los Angeles area residents looking for a blissful, albeit temporary, release from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The Ojai Valley has a rich and varied history and it is defined by a supreme dedication to the arts and the outdoors. The Ojai Valley itself is relatively small; from east-to-west, it lays 10 miles long and three miles wide. If not for the English being spoken as you sip from an area Pinot Noir, you might mistake the breath and feel of the Ojai Valley for a small chateau town in southern France.

The main, most populated social draw in the Ojai Valley is the city of Ojai. Beyond the city, the valley itself holds such town as Meiners Oaks (the region's most populated community outside of Ojai City), Casitas Springs, Oak View and Mira Monte. As a destination and vacation spot, the Ojai Valley is ideal. Whether you enjoy hiking, film, tennis or spas, the Ojai Valley is replete with options.
