Broadband Internet Fax

by Christopher Thompson

The greatest savings from utilizing internet-based fax services come about when using a broadband internet connection, such as DSL, cable, or satellite. Before internet faxing was available, users would have to purchase a fax machine and a dedicated phone line, both of which could be prohibitively expensive. As soon as faxing over the Internet became available, users began to see savings that resulted from not having to purchase fax hardware, a dedicated line, and paying long distance charges.

However, there was still the matter of choosing an fax service provider. Some providers offer a set number of pages per month that can be sent and received. Others opt to use an hourly system whereby users are actually purchasing time from the provider. In this case, if you're faxing over a dial-up connection, although you're receiving massive savings, your savings aren't what they could be.

For those utilizing such services over a broadband system, your savings are much greater, as it takes far less time to fax the same documents. There are even companies that specifically target broadband users for their fax services. Just as the savings will be greater for the user, there will also be greater savings for the provider as the network is less saturated with data and the transmit times are decreased.

What about fax service providers that only provide a specified number of pages that can be sent or received in a billing period? Although you may not experience the same savings as with other billing methods, you are still experiencing great savings by not purchasing fax hardware or a dedicated fax line. Further, all broadband users can feel a sense of freedom knowing that no matter how large the document is, the network can speed it along to the destination.
