Nassau Bahamas Hotels

by Kate Satorius

Nassau, on Providence Island, is home to one of the largest concentrations of hotels in the Bahamas. With everything from budget motels to high-end boutique hotels to posh spas, there are options for all sorts of travelers. At the lowest end of the spectrum you can expect to pay $100-$150 for a double-occupancy room during peak season (mid-December through April), with the off-peak rates being about 10-30 percent less. The most luxurious establishments can cost upwards of $500 per night, though off-season deals may be available.

Asking yourself a few questions should help you decide whether you want to stay in the city center or outside of town. Do you envision totally stress-free days filled with nothing but lying on the sand? Do you plan on browsing the boutiques on Bay Street for local crafts? Or will you spend all your waking hours on a sailboat? Of course, the island is small enough that you'll never be far away from whatever you want to do. As with any vacation, atmosphere and location should be top considerations.

Hotel Amenities

In Nassau, your options range from all-inclusive resorts to intimate guest houses, so evaluating what kinds of amenities you want is key. Hotels that offer meal packages might be ideal if you don't want to worry about finding a restaurant in town, but if one of your favorite parts of traveling is hunting down funky cafes and local specialties, a boutique hotel might be more to your liking.

If you'll be traveling with children, be sure to look at hotels with kid-friendly programs. Many larger hotels offer day care arrangements, allowing you and your significant other to clock some well-deserved romantic beach time. These kinds of programs are popular with the kids as well, offering them a chance to participate in activities like snorkeling, arts and crafts, and celebrations of local culture.
