PDA Screen Protectors

by Kathleen Gagne

The official definition of a PDA is any device that acts as a personal digital assistant. This can include a wide range of hardware and software but is generally found in a relatively small unit that can be fit into a typical pocket or purse. Many PDAs offer touch screen technology by supporting the use of a stylus that can be inserted into a custom slot on the unit.

Today there is a debate going on about the term PDA as applied to newer smart phones that provide users with very similar options to those found on pocket PCs. This can include browsers, word processors, spreadsheet functionality, and an accessible programming language. Both types of units also come with wireless internet capabilities.

What They Have in Common

The common thread in all kinds of small communication devices from cell phones to PCs is that they all have screens. Whether the unit can be operated with a tiny keyboard, a stylus, or a finger, these small screens can be vulnerable in ways that desktop computer screens and panels are not. Screens on handheld digital assistants are susceptible to knocks, dings, and even damage from the normal use of a stylus. Just being so portable means they need more care.

Today there is a second generation screen protector available for almost any handheld electronic device. What they do is prevent scratching and other damage, such as blurring where the stylus is used most. Newer protectors are remarkably sturdy as well as smooth enough to allow for unrestricted stylus operation. While older versions of protectors were sometimes abandoned because of air bubbles that formed during application, newer ones have eliminated that drawback. New generation protectors are sized to fit specific PDA models and are easy to install.
