Handheld Computer Screen Protectors

by Kathleen Gagne

No matter the size of a handheld computer, the screen is usually the most expensive feature when it comes to repairs. At the same time, the screen is also one of the most vulnerable components in the unit. It can be damaged by simply using the stylus, by water, by dust incursions, and by "dings."

Protecting the screen, therefore, can mean extending the life of the computer in addition to making it easier to read. Doing so is, in fact, fairly simple. As the number of handheld computers grows, the technology of supporting them is also developing faster. Just a few years ago, a screen protector for a handheld was a cumbersome accessory. They came with tacky backs, often resulted in a number of bubbles when applied, and did not prevent the accumulation of "dust."

It's a New Game

Right now, handheld screen protectors are moving into a new generation of excellence. Models are lighter, stronger, and, more specifically, better able to do the job. Application is easier with some protectors providing a treated cleaning cloth for use before applying the protecting film. The cloths are designed to reduce the presence of particles on the screen and to prepare it for the protector.

Handheld screen protectors usually come in packages of more than one and are inexpensive enough to be changed whenever the user chooses. While they are thinner and clearer than ever, they are also stronger and more resistant to the scratching and blurring that occurred on some older versions. The bottom line is that screen protectors are relatively disposable and that the right one will protect the screen quite well.
