Palm Screen Protectors

by Kathleen Gagne

The average screen dimensions of a palm or handheld digital device is around 2.0" to 2.5". Because of their small size and the variety of options available to users, these screens can be damaged very easily. Many support touch technology, which requires the use of a stylus, and some of the screens can become scratched or cloudy over time with significant use.

Constant tapping motions can also allow for the intrusion of minute but visible dust particles under the tiny screen. Add to that the fact that some screens are difficult to read, and it becomes clear that help is needed. In order to preserve the screen as long as possible, users can purchase flexible screen protectors that may double or triple the life of the screen.

The Right Protector

In the past, some screen protector manufacturers marketed products that required cutting and shaping by the end user. Since the protectors usually have some form of adhesive on the back, the cutting, if not done accurately, could result in less-than-complete protection for the screen and a lot of grief for the user.

The latest generation of screen protectors for small, handheld devices are much more sophisticated. The adhesive backing is considerably less dense, and the screen protectors themselves are stronger and more durable. Some of them can even be removed, washed, and reused. For those who use a stylus, popular screen protectors can often be purchased in packs of five or more units. Even the packaged sets are low cost, often under $20. Finally, newer screen protectors may also offer glare reduction.
