Flag Football Sets

by Kathleen Gagne

Fledgling flag football teams need a lot of practice. While many recreation departments currently support flag football leagues, there may not be enough time available on official fields for team practices. The good news is that teams or their sponsors can purchase a number of flag football field set-up packages that will make practices and games much easier to manage.

These packages can include such key items as soft pylons, sideline markers, and installation kits. Other flag football necessities that may be included in sets are line markers, down markers, and gear for officials. Flag football sets can also include age-appropriate footballs for practice and game use. Line painters are not typically sold in sets, and line paint must be purchased separately as well.

Beginner Sets

To play flag football in the park or a back yard, it is a good idea to purchase a beginner's flag football kit. While neckerchiefs or colored strips of cloth can be used, the minimal cost of flag football belt sets with velcro is well worth the expense. These sets can sometimes be purchased for under twelve dollars for both teams. The ease of velcro release and re-attachment moves the game along, and the different colored flags for each team make it easier to identify who is on which team.

Practice footballs for beginners are usually made of softer materials than standard footballs, and these also can be purchased in sets. Sizes vary according to age. Options range from ridged soft footballs for those with smaller hands to professional-size balls for adults. Teams can also purchase pull-on numbered jerseys in sets of two different colors.
