Flag Football Supplies

by Kathleen Gagne

It will probably amaze those new to the sport to find out exactly how inexpensive it is to get a team started in flag football. Flag football can be played in a park, in a back yard, or on an official flag football field. League play often necessitates team fees, especially when related to the use of recreation department facilities; however, the fees often cover only six to eight games per season, so the charges should be relatively low.

Other than the cost for fees, it takes very little money to support a flag football team. Basic equipment includes practice and game footballs and flag belts. Generally, flag belts for an entire team will cost under twenty dollars. Flag belt sets for two teams of up to eight players each include flags of different colors to differentiate between the teams. Flags are attached to the belts with velcro for ease of use.

Get Ready for the Game

Obviously, it is important for both players and observers to know which players are on each team. Flag football lightweight numbered jerseys can be purchased either online or through local sporting goods stores. It's also important to demarcate the dimensions of the field. This can be accomplished with inexpensive field markers.

Supplies for game officials include striped jerseys and socks. Whistles are important as well. In order to indicate that a penalty has been observed, officials will also need weighted yellow flags that are clearly visible. Flags, along with the sound of the whistle, serve to stop play so that penalties can be assessed.
