California DUI Lawyers
California DUI Defense AttorneysHowever you get the name of a DUI defense attorney, there are several factors that you must consider before signing any contract for services. Ethical, qualified DUI attorneys follow a specific set of guidelines that protect a client's interests. For example, no honest attorney will ever predict the results of a court proceeding or promise that he or she can "get the client off." Since California DUI cases inevitably include both DMV and court proceedings, a client should know in advance whether any attorney fees that are discussed would include both venues. If chemical tests are to be challenged, will those be included in the fee as well? Although most attorneys will have a contract available, it is up to the client to be sure that he or she understands its terms and what services it includes at the stated cost. What to Do When ArrestedGetting arrested is a very scary experience. If the accused is simply required to hand over his license and given the California DMV information sheet which provides for permission to drive for 30 days, he can go home and try to find an attorney. He or his attorney will have exactly 10 days to contact the DMV as required. If, on the other hand, the accused is taken into custody, he should be read his rights and advised that he is entitled to legal counsel. However, the accused may never have had any dealings with an attorney for any reason and may not know how to go about getting one. If there is a cooperative police officer on hand, it can be a good idea to ask that officer if he could recommend a qualified, board-certified DUI attorney. ![]() Get all California Lawyers articles via
