California DUI Lawyers
Los Angeles DUI LawyersBecause of the way driving under the influence (DUI) cases are handled in the early stages, DUI lawyers have a lot of options when it comes to establishing a defense. There are generally two issues on which to take a stand. One is whether the driver's rights were violated at any point, and the other is whether there is any question regarding the evidence. The average lawyer does not deal regularly with the California Department of Motor Vehicles and probably has had very few interactions with the criminal codes and statutes related to DUI arrests. A knowledgeable DUI lawyer, however, will seek to reduce the impact of the incident on his client as much as possible, even to the extent of trying to get the charges dropped. Qualified Los Angeles DUI LawyersAn up-front DUI lawyer in Los Angeles will discuss the two paths of proceedings related to the arrest. First, there are criminal charges and penalties to deal with. Second, the accused must also deal with the state's department of motor vehicles. Both of these arms of the law can be costly without the services of a lawyer. DUI lawyers will look for any constitutional issues related to the arrest and evidence. Such errors as Fourth and Fifth Amendment violations are common, but they could be overlooked by an attorney not used to dealing with DUI cases. Prosecutors are more likely to offer or accept plea bargains when they are familiar with the expertise of the accused's lawyer. In some cases, this can lead to outright dismissal of charges or to reductions such as community service instead of fines. ![]() Get all California Lawyers articles via
