Brooklyn Real Estate

by Patricia Cagle

Brooklyn is an excellent place for people who want to live near the action, but not necessarily on top of it. Nicknamed the "Borough of Homes," Brooklyn is largely residential and boasts a population of nearly three million natives. A village that is as exciting as it is laid-back, Brooklyn represents the perfect of amalgam of New York and New Jersey.

Merely 10 minutes outside of Manhattan, Brooklyn is mostly inhabited by New York City professionals who don't wish to live amidst the bustling metropolis. Originally established by Dutch immigrants, Brooklyn is known for its cultural diversity. Featuring a variety of neighborhoods of all shapes, sizes and colors, Brooklyn is the quintessential ethnic melting pot.

Many people choose to live in Brooklyn because the real estate there is much cheaper than it is across the bridge. While a studio apartment in a massive skyscraper can set you back hundreds of thousands of dollars, the same price in Brooklyn can yield a cute residence in a quainter building. The overall residential feel of Brooklyn adds to its charm; people who set up camp in this borough tend to stay there.

As with real estate shopping anywhere in New York, prospective Brooklyn buyers should waste no time in hiring a real estate agent. The various districts and neighborhoods in Brooklyn are often difficult for even lifelong residents to discern. Thus, working with a reputable area real estate agent will make the search process much easier. A reputable real estate agent will not only know the locations of the best properties, but also the right schools, shops, restaurants, and general neighborhood distinctions.
