Bronx New York Real Estate

by Patricia Cagle

South of Westchester County and just across the Harlem River from Manhattan lies the famed New York neighborhood known as the Bronx. One of the five boroughs of New York, the Bronx is home to nearly 1.5 million residents. Seeped in rich history and culture, the Bronx is a New York City treasure.

Similar to many of the other boroughs, many people choose to live in the Bronx in order to be close to the city. Since real estate in the Bronx is far cheaper than it is in Manhattan, individuals can get more for their money. Despite its one-time reputation as a rough-and-tumble neighborhood, the Bronx has turned out more than its share of noble citizens including Edgar Allen Poe, Ralph Lauren, Colin Powell, Al Pacino, and Gary Marshall (to name a few).

Though the Bronx may not be as sophisticated as its next-door-neighbor, what it lacks in posh nightlife, it makes up for in character. Most residents will attest that there is a strong sense of community in the Bronx that is difficult to find elsewhere. Perhaps this is why the National Civic Council bestowed the All America City award to the Bronx in 1997.

People looking for things to do in the Bronx need not search far. Home to the celebrated Bronx Zoo, the New York Botanical Garden and (of course) world-famous Yankee Stadium, the Bronx certainly has its share of legendary attractions. For those who crave a taste of the big city, Manhattan is just a few minutes away. This makes Bronx, New York real estate an ideal locale for NYC commuters.
