Albany New York Real EstateIndividuals who want to settle down amidst the charm of a small town (but don't necessarily want to be too far from the action) would be wise to consider Albany. Located approximately 150 miles north of New York City, Albany is both centrally located and culturally appealing. An excellent place for families, Albany real estate is a solid investment. As the capital of New York, Albany is the cornerstone of what is known as the Capitol District, of which the cities of Troy and Schenectady are also a part. In particular, downtown Albany offers a wide assortment of architectural and cultural delights. Some of these include the century-old state capitol building, the Empire State Plaza, and the infamous sphere-shaped performing arts center known as "The Egg." In previous decades, Albany garnered a small-town reputation which subsequently led to the nickname: "Smallbany." This is not so much the case any longer as Albany has experienced a recent shift in cultural dynamics. Locals are happy to attest to the rise of a thriving artistic society known as the "Hidden City." A community made up of musicians, performers, poets, fashion designers, etc., the Hidden City has quickened Albany's creative pulse--and the value of Albany, New York real estate. Home to approximately 100,000 residents, Albany boasts classic small-town charm with a hint of big city flavor. Real estate in the area is very reasonable in price (particularly when compared to Manhattan) and the market is traditionally stable. Individuals who are interested in shopping for real estate in Albany would be well-advised to hire a real estate agent to get a foothold in this increasingly competitive market. ![]() Get all New York Real Estate articles via
