Labor Relations Consultant

by Diane Sievert

A labor relations consultant should be a wealth of information. His entire job is to solve labor relations issues. If your current management thinks it has exhausted all the possibilities, it might be time to consult with a specialist.

How To Choose a Labor Relations Consultant

An obvious thing to consider is previous cases. Your specialist should be able to demonstrate winning results from past situations. For example, if union avoidance is your concern, ask your consultant about successful union prevention campaigns that he has launched in the past.

Another thing to ponder is the nature of your specialist's experience. Generally, we tend to think the more years, the better. But you might also want to inquire about the types of businesses and employees your specialist has worked with before.

A final note: take your labor relations consultant seriously. Everyone is suspicious of being over-charged. However, if you neglect your consultant's advice, you risk losing a lot more.
