Reference Checking

by Diane Sievert

Reference checking is extremely important. Neglecting this simple task can result in the most unfortunate of situations. It doesn't take a lot of effort and there are even independent businesses that will do it for you.

Don't Underestimate the Importance of Reference Checking

How do you know if your new employees will be reliable, productive workers? Don't rely on a smile and handshake. Check their references to ensure they have a positive work history.

The interview process alone isn't enough to determine a potential employee's performance. A person's past is the best way to determine their future. Therefore reference checking should be a non-negotiable part of the hiring process.

Don't subject your workplace harmony to dangerous outsiders. Check the reference listed on the employment application. It's the best way to avoid unfortunate disruption in your company's business practice.
