Union Organizing

by Diane Sievert

Union organizing is a situation you want to avoid at all costs. Protect your rights to manage your company free of interference. Spend a little more up front on preventative measures to make sure you don't end up facing a petition.

How to Prevent Union Organizing

There are several steps you can take to ensure union avoidance. One is to clearly state your union policy in your employee handbook. Also, take the time during training to educate your new employees about the pros and cons of union representation.

Also important is the use of the employee satisfaction survey. These surveys allow your employees to voice their concerns without fear of punitive retaliation. Of course, management must respond appropriately to survey if it's to be effective.

Maintaining workplace harmony is not an easy task. It takes time, energy and money. It is, however, a wise investment if you want to avoid the possibility of union organizing.
