Positive Work Environment

by Diane Sievert

A positive work environment should not be considered a luxury. It should be considered a necessity. Attempting to operate a business in which the employee-employer relations are strained is not only difficult, but also ineffective.

Why We Emphasize the Importance of a Positive Work Environment

The obvious reason is clear: no one wants to work in an environment where tensions are strained. The most immediate consequence of working in a positive work environment is that it's simply more pleasurable. Going to work shouldn't be like going into battle.

Consider also the long-term effects of an unfortunate work environment. Not only is it an unpleasant daily experience, it could lead to union organizing. Poor labor relations can lead directly to a call for union representation.

Every employer knows the headaches that unions can cause. Take care to avoid this situation and make it a point to address the concerns that currently plague your work environment. Doing so can have limitless, positive effects.
