Dental Surgery

Dental surgery may be necessary to correct problems in the teeth or jaws. These procedures are often done to improve oral functioning. Surgery is needed to fix severe dental defects that need immediate correction, or milder ones that may become much worse later on down the road.

Dental surgery is also done to alleviate pain, such as in the case of impacted molars. When these teeth become impacted, they cause a great deal of pain and distress in the surrounding teeth and bone. Often they need to be removed surgically.

Other common surgical procedures are crown lengthening, dental implants, and bone reduction. Periodontal, or gum, surgery, is also a common type of oral surgery. This surgery is often necessary when gums become diseased, such as with gingivitis.

No one likes to have dental surgery, but it should never be put off if it's necessary. Surgery is expensive, so it's best to have good dental insurance that covers it should the need arise.
