P-40 WarhawkAs the name suggests, the P-40 Warhawk was an airplane used in combat during World War II. In fact, it was the third most used fighter plane in the line of American aircraft used in the war effort. All told, about 15,000 of these planes rolled off the assembly lines and into the air over the Pacific. You can find images of the P-40 Warhawk and other military aircraft pictures online at websites dedicated to flight history and preservation. There are also many websites that bring together men who served in World War II. They have special sections for people who flew and provided maintenance for the Warhawks. These sites offer unique stories of going into battle, as well as some amazing stories of survival. Tales From the Cockpit of a P-40 WarhawkNothing is more inspiring than reading the stories of the men who flew the P-40 Warhawk into combat. These stories provide you with a sense of the heroism that went into every combat mission. When you read these stories you want to do everything you can to preserve the memories of these young men. One thing you can do to learn more about these planes and other military aircraft is to visit museums around the country that display flight exhibits and World War 2 Memorabilia collections. You can plan a family vacation to flight museums and conventions around the country, or you can wait for traveling exhibits to come to your town. It's also an amazing experience to attend an air show if you can. They often feature older or vintage airplanes from the war. ![]() Get all Aviation Gifts articles via
