A-10 Warthog

by Rylee Newton

The A-10 Warthog was designed to provide close range support for ground troops. One of the most important functions of this aircraft is to provide ground troops with reconnaissance information. These planes often travel with and coordinate with ground troops to provide the most current information about the upcoming terrain.

Because the A-10 Warthog flies so close to the ground it has an increased chance of being hit by ground fire from hand-held missiles and tanks. The engineers behind this plane created extra protection for pilots of these planes. They are equipped with what is sometimes called "get home" features that ensure the safety of pilots and crewmembers.

The A-10 Warthog: Providing Protection to Ground Troops Around the Globe

Pilots who fly the A-10 Warthog can operate these planes during the nighttime. This makes them especially adept at covert operations. These planes are equipped with Gatling machine guns that are capable of firing nearly 4,000 rounds per minute. These airplanes are deployed all over the globe. Pilots are stationed and trained at Air Force bases all over the country.

You can view the A-10 and other airplane pictures online. These photos show the power of these planes, and their impact on the safety of ground troops around the world. You can find all kinds of airplane collectibles online as well. You can also find these items at museum gift shops and at the concession stands for flight-related events.
