How To Find A Lawyer

by Laurie Nichol

Retaining proper legal help can seem daunting, especially in the face of competing print advertisements and television commercials. How can you really find the right attorney for your case? The best way to narrow down your options is to have an experienced service do the searching for you.

Using Online Directories to Find the Right Lawyer

There are several online lawyer information databases which can, upon receiving your particulars, find the proper legal counsel. You can expect a detailed list of skilled firms and individuals who have been pre-screened by the service. With so many different attorneys out there, in the many different sectors of the law, this will help save you a lot of the usual time and energy expended to find the right lawyer.

As always when considering pursuing a lawsuit, find out your state's statute of limitations regarding time allowed to file a claim. This differs based on the type of suit you wish to bring. Don't let a valid claim dissipate because you waited too long to file! If you have doubts as to how much time you have, try a legal consultation with an attorney who can lay out a reasonable time frame for your legal plans.

Knowing what to ask a lawyer who you are considering retaining will help you narrow down your field even further. Clarify that he or she has a successful history handling your type of lawsuit. Understand up front what fees to expect, and what percentage of a successful settlement he or she will take.
