Scuba Diving Camps

by Jeremy Horelick

Contrary to popular belief, scuba camps are not simply for certified scuba divers. While those with certifications are encouraged to push themselves and acquire new skills, novice divers are also welcome. Even if your child isn't much of a swimmer, there are fantastic instructors who can help expose your son or daughter to the underwater world.

Scuba diving camps are often held in some of the world's most renowned dive spots. From the tropical Virgin Gorda with its sunken treasures to the wreck dives of Peter Island near Tortola, your young diver will experience first hand several of the most exotic sites on Earth. Add to these Australia's Great Barrier Reef--widely heralded as the top destination in the world--and your child will never want to dive anywhere but world-class sites again.

Not Just Scuba Diving Camps

Many campers want the thrill of scuba diving without a summer committed solely to the sport. This is good news, as many teen travel camps incorporate scuba diving as merely one of many exhilarating options. The average teen summer camp on the high seas also gives its participants the chance to snorkel, wakeboard, and windsurf as well, so there's never too much or too little of one particular activity.

Scuba diving camps are also great for PADI- and NAUI-certified divers who have their basic open-water credential. Drift dives, night dives, and navigational techniques give these divers a chance to expand their skills and test for advanced degrees. With yachtsmen, divemasters, and EMTs constantly on hand, there's more than enough expertise and supervision to keep everyone safe while having fun.
