Take on a Roosterfish!

Billfish may make your reputation as a classy angler, but those in the know say the roosterfish will give you a battle you'll never forget! This member of the jack family is one of the most targeted and exciting fish of the inshore. Lurking among the volcanic rocks of the Pacific coastline, the roosterfish averages 15 to 20 pounds, but can frequently be 40 pounds, with 80-pound fish not uncommon.

Roosterfish and other inshore fish are plentiful off the Bat Islands in the north Pacific, Quepos, and around Drake Bay to the south of Quepos. What puts Drake Bay on the fishing map, however, are the giant cubera snapper that haunt the volcanic rock reef. These huge fish often go over 50 pounds; several world records have been broken fishing this massive reef area. Other abundant fish are jacks, snapper, and mackerel. The river mouths between Quepos and Dominical also produce big black snook. Quepos ocean waters yield large numbers of tuna and dorado. All in all, Quepos Costa Rica fishing offers a great time for every family member.
