Belize Dive TripsThousands of Belize Dive TripsBelize dive trips number in the thousands! Unrivaled for the sheer abundance of locales and the distinctive beauty of each site, Belize diving offers an endless potpourri for the water enthusiast. For starters, the Barrier Reef that protects the entire Belizean coastline is the second longest reef in the world, and a World Heritage Site. This designation means that visitors may dive in and photograph and enjoy the bounty of the reef, but they may not remove any coral or sea life, or damage the reef in any way. In fact, almost every inch of the areas around the atolls and cayes are protected by government regulations. Tourism has become a mainstay of the Belizean economy, and the government is quite responsibly preserving its unique and stunning Caribbean resources. Prime SpotsTry to pick just one spot to dive! If you've been on Belize dive vacations previously, you may have a favorite, but with umpteen spots and preserves to explore, it's tough to stick with one locale. Some locations are world-famous, however, so a first-time traveler has some guidelines to consult. Ambergris Caye is an increasingly popular visitor destination. Why? Take a look at an aerial photo of this island set in the light turquoise of the waters inside the reef, with the deep blue Caribbean outside. For extended Belize dive trips, try Hol Chan Marine Reserve, just four miles southeast of San Pedro, the main settlement on Ambergris Caye. With five square miles of coral formations and attendant sea life, this reserve is the first of its kind in Central America. Not afraid of a little excitement? Head for Shark Ray Alley, which is a break in the reef just south of Hol Chan where you can swim with nurse sharks and stingrays. In southern Belize, Laughing Bird Caye is a recent addition to the many reserves and has beautiful diving spots to explore. ![]() Get all Latin America articles via
