Ambergris Caye Belize is the largest of the 200 offshore cayes, or islands, that dot the coastline of this country. The epitome of the laid-back Caribbean lifestyle, Ambergris Caye has no paved roads or traffic lights. How do people get around? Visitors take water taxis or commuter planes from the mainland; locals use bicycles and golf carts.

The 200-Mile Barrier Reef

The second longest barrier reef in the world lies off the coast of Belize. When you fly into Belize, you can't miss the dramatic white surf that marks an unbroken reef along the Yucatan Peninsula south past the border of Belize. The western edge of Ambergris Caye Belize looks like lace work. Lagoons, bays, and inlets riddle this shoreline, but the Caribbean coast presents a more solid front with its miles of white, sandy beaches.
