Informal Belize Lodges

Belize lodges are an extension of the informality of the entire country. Set among lush, wild rain forests or on fabulous beaches looking out on the crystal-clear, azure Caribbean, these accommodations blend in with their surroundings. No high-rises here, and no disruption of the beautiful, natural settings.

On the Outer Cayes, Turneffe Island Lodge has low-rise island houses furnished in the native woods of Belize--as are many Belize accommodations. The easy-going atmosphere also typifies much of the lodging ambience in Belize. Blue Marlin Lodge on South Water Caye has thatched cabanas, which are found in many accommodations throughout the country. Near Placencia, Turtle Inn is a beach lodge that has an open-air dining room looking out on the Caribbean.

Rustic Inland Lodges

Inland lodges are located in the jungles of the interior of Belize, and are often near world-famous Mayan ruins. Proximity facilitates access to these ruins, which are remote and isolated. Orange Walk District and Cayo District have quite a few options for Belize lodges; several of them present adventuresome experiences!

Chan Chich Lodge is so isolated that transfers are by air because entry to the property by land would take six hours! Chan Chich and Lamanai Outpost Lodge, both in Orange Walk, have thatched-roof cabanas. Tropical climates make possible the open-air bar at Lamanai; the restaurant has a panoramic view of the jungle. Cayo District has many accommodations; they often fall under the intriguing category of Belize eco lodges.
