Ground Penetrating Radar Systems
Utility LocatingUtility Locating with Convenient GPRUtility locating has never been easier to do than with the latest Ground Penetrating Radar technology. It is no longer like searching for a needle in a haystack, or as time consuming as taking X-ray images of a large area. In fact, thousands of square feet can be scanned in one day, with data that pinpoints the exact location of all subsurface utilities. More and more companies that need to know where utilities are located, are using this non-destructive testing to answer their questions. Professionals in the fields of engineering, mining, geology, archaeology, and forensic science all use these GPR systems to solve their specific problems. This technology allows professionals to make strategic plans before engineering projects and construction are underway. How Subsurface Radar WorksSubsurface radar is able to do utility locating by using a specialized antenna. When this antenna is scanned over a targeted area, radio pulses are given off when they detect and locate embedded utilities, including conduit, cables, or electrical wiring. This is then further analyzed when the data is downloaded onto a laptop computer, giving the exact location and depth of these utilities. Construction projects often run way over budget due to problems that arise during excavation. When digging machinery such as an excavator or a backhoe hits rebar or piping unexpectedly, the results can be more than a little aggravating. . .they can be disastrous. Unplanned contact with live electrical wires could electrocute someone, or cause a fire, both of which could be fatal to people in the vicinity. ![]() Get all GPR articles via
