Silicone Grease

by Rachel Arieff

Silicone grease is a good industrial lubricant for sensitive rubber materials. It works by penetrating the surface of the material and then subjecting it to a conditioning cycle. This deep conditioning action keeps the material flexible and prevents cracking, which would require replacement.

Besides its conditioning qualities, silicone grease is also used to protect engine parts. It inhibits the rust, corrosion, and oxidation that are so common in engines. Sometimes mechanics buff up porous or metallic surfaces with this grease for protection against corrosion.

Other Properties of Silicone Grease

Besides being able to prevent corrosion, this grease also has a waterproofing effect. Though it's aqua-based, it doesn't dry out when the water evaporates. Instead, it converts itself into an anti-corrosive film on engine parts.

Silicone is known to be a great protector of copper, brass, and bronze parts. Whenever you're looking to purchase any kind of automotive product--be it silicone grease, synthetic motor oil or gear lube--make sure you know you're getting the best quality and value. Make sure to take the time and effort to thoroughly research your automotive options.
