Consumer Credit Report
Personal Credit ReportA personal credit report is a summary of your credit history. There are several basic items in every report. First are open accounts such as credit cards, car payments and student loans. Every credit card you have ever applied for, even if it goes unused is listed in this report. What is Included in My Personal Credit Report? The list of accounts helps financial institutions determine how much debt you currently have and how much potential debt you could acquire. Potential debt is the maximum amount of money you could spend given the accounts you currently have open. If your credit card only has $300 charged to it, but your limit is $3,000, your potential debt is $3,000. Your history of payments is also printed on your personal credit report. Every payment you have made is broken down into four categories: on time, 15, 30 or 60 days late. Obviously the more late payments you have, the lower your credit score. Improving Your ScoreBankruptcy filings, lawsuits and unpaid judgements are also listed on your credit report. If you are looking to improve your score, pay your bills on time, lower the amount of possible debt you have and limit credit inquiries. While these steps won't improve your credit overnight, they will help your score in the long run. ![]() Get all Credit articles via
