Pagan Wicca

by Kevin Little

Pagan Wicca sounds ominous--just the word "pagan" brings to mind dark, sometimes frightening images. However, a little research into the origins of the word can clear up a lot of of misconceptions about both paganism and Wicca itself. The Wicca religion is not as scary as some would have you believe.

"Pagan" comes from the Latin paganus, which refers simply to one who is a peasant or villager, according to Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary. And what's wrong with that? A group of people in a village, living off the land, doesn't sound so threatening to me.

Clearing the Air in Terms of Pagan Wicca

The term has come to signify those who do not subscribe to a monotheistic religion. Once again, what's so terrible about that? One deserves the freedom to make such choices without prejudice, and, hey--the more Wiccan goddesses (and gods) the merrier!

Pagan Wicca seems to spring from small village roots even today. Emphasizing a respect for the earth, the beliefs of Wicca lead to a whole and healthy lifestyle. A lifestyle no one should feel embarrassed to learn more about if she so desires.
