2003 Jeep Wrangler

by Jeremy Horelick

The 2003 Jeep Wrangler continues a line of well-built, durable, and rugged off-road vehicles. While all Jeeps are intended for at least some difficult terrain, the 2003 Jeep Wrangler boasts a few updates that make it the toughest version yet. So whether you're scaling craggy cliffs or just coasting down the highway, you have the assurance that you can adeptly handle whatever may lie ahead.

For 2003, the Wrangler offers a new engine and transmission, as well as optional four-wheel disc brakes. The SE, Jeep's base model, features an additional 27 horsepower over the previous year's model, but a 2.4-liter engine in place of its 2.5-liter predecessor. The sport models, which includes the Jeep Rubicon, gives a significant boost with 190 horsepower and an inline six-cylinder engine.

Additional Specs on the 2003 Jeep Wrangler

For icy conditions or sudden stops, the 2003 edition of the Wrangler offers anti-lock brakes--except in the SE and Rubicon, the latter of which also sports slightly bigger tires for more severe off-road use. Standard on the 2003 is Jeep's patented Command-Trac four-wheel drive with low-range gearing. If you're not out climbing precipices in your 2003, this feature must be disengaged.

The front seats in the 2003 have also been redesigned for a sleeker look and more efficient use of space. While manual transmission is standard, you can opt for a four-speed automatic for an additional cost. The same line of Jeep accessories is available for the 2003, from seat covers and speaker bars to modular cargo units and protective sunshades.
