Digital Video Surveillance SystemsWhether you're looking for your first security system or are seeking to upgrade to the latest technology, you should take a look at digital video surveillance systems online. Closed circuit television (CCTV) systems have been around for decades, and they can be pretty effective in certain situations. They can, however, also be cumbersome to use. CCTV systems generally require tapes, and the tapes need to be changed on a regular basis. They also need to be stored. Many companies keep tapes for a month or more, and, depending on the number of recorders, that can mean an entire closet for storage and a lot of manhours lost. Searching for a particular event on the tapes can be difficult and time consuming as well. Digital Video Surveillance Systems AdvantagesWith a digital system, you no longer need tapes. You don't even need new video cameras to upgrade. You can use your existing CCTV monitors, but, instead of recording on tapes, your videos can be saved directly to a hard drive in a variety of file formats. In addition, unlike video tapes that lose quality over time resulting in a poorer image, a hard drive's picture quality does not degrade over time. With the advent of Pentium technology and the faster speeds of the newest generation of computers, digital video systems are now much easier to use and much more affordable. All you need to get started is a basic system (some of which will handle up to 16 cameras) and a computer with a CD Rom drive. You can, of course, now purchase systems that provide black and white or color video. Be sure to look for a system that is expandable. A digital surveillance system can be a tremendous asset that will protect your employees and your valuables for years to come. ![]() Get all Surveillance articles via
