Online Tax Filing
Filing State TaxFiling State Tax Forms OnlineWhile many taxpayers are aware that they can file their Federal taxes online, they may not know that state taxes can also be filed. As a matter of fact, some tax sites will use the information from a Federal form to enter the correct data on the state form. If you're filing your Federal taxes online, you may find that your state tax form will cost a little less. Filling out the state form is usually simpler since much of the data can be extracted from the Federal form. Depending on which state you live in, completed forms may be accepted as early as mid-January. Both state and Federal forms will require an electronic signature to complete. This will be the information from a specific line on your previous year's return. Most states will also offer a direct deposit refund if you have one coming. State Tax FormsYou may be interested to note that most states use the same dates for filing state tax returns as those used by the Federal government. There are some differences, however, and it is up to you to know what they are. If you are filing state tax returns online, you will find that most of the sites that offer that service will also be aware of the dates, and all of them will know which options are available to you. It makes a lot of sense to file both of your forms online with the same company. Not only does it save you money, it also saves you the time it would take to fill out a full second form. As with your Federal return, the hardest part for you will be gathering all of the tax documents you need to have on hand. The rest is easy. ![]() Get all Tax Software articles via
