It's state tax filing time again.You're probably thinking about getting ready to file your Federal and state taxes. You may have already received all of the tax documents you're expecting, and you're eager to file to get your refund or to get the bad news out of the way.

Someone mentioned that they filed their income tax returns on the Internet last year and got their refund within a few days, so you're looking for an online tax filing option. You, however, reside in a state that also levies a state income tax. Maybe you worked part of the year in such a state and resided for the rest of the year in a state that doesn't require you to pay income tax. You have a million questions, including how to file your state taxes.

The good news is that filing your state income tax return couldn't be easier. All you have to do is to include it when you complete your Federal tax return online. There will be an additional charge to add your state tax, but it will generally cost less than filing your Federal tax.

The reason it's so easy to file your state tax online is that Internet and tax preparation software programs will automatically move the pertinent information from your Federal form to your state form. That means you don't have to reenter all your personal data or all of the numbers from your tax documents. The only items you will have to address on your state tax form are those that differ from your Federal form.
