Late Tax Filing

Late Tax Filing Penalties

Everyone knows that income taxes must be postmarked by April 15th each year, yet, each year, hundreds of thousands of people face late tax filing. Missing the deadline by just one day can cause all kinds of problems and can cost the taxpayer money. If you don't file your taxes on time, you may be subject to either penalties or interest on your unpaid taxes or both.

If, for any reason, you anticipate not being able to file your tax return by April 15th, you should make sure that you apply for an automatic extension. You can usually get a four month extension. If you have a refund coming, you will not be assessed either penalties or interest; however, you should still file on time whenever possible.

Avoid Late Tax Filing

Gathering all the tax documents you need and filling out a tax form can be very time consuming, not to mention daunting. Many people put the task off for those very reasons. Then they find themselves working frantically at the last minute to get their tax returns done and in the mail. Unfortunately, the rush and stress frequently contribute to errors that can mean delays in a refund, or worse.

Today you have an option that will get your return where it's supposed to be with less stress and a better chance of an accurate return. Even if it's only a few days until April 15th, you can get it done online, and you'll find that the support you get when you file online will minimize the stress. At the same time, if you'd like that refund fast, you can get it within a few days instead of the weeks it would take if you mail in your form.
