Corporate Education

by Josh Dodes

The very notion of corporate education connotes Dilbert-like meetings of interminable length and dubious value. However, thanks to a few innovative software companies, corporate learning can be not only educational, but genuinely exciting. By focusing on business strategy games, these companies have made learning a truly interactive competition.

Lectures, case studies, and yes, even meetings have their place in the education of businessperson. But as with so many things in life, there is no substitute for real-life experience. These simulations provide that experience in a context that is competitive and creative, without the real financial risk that tends to kill creative thinking.

Corporate Education: The Game

These new simulation games take advantage of the Internet in providing a richly-detailed business battleground on which to compete. Students download market conditions, work as a team, and upload corporate decisions. They are able to not only think through realistic scenarios, but also see the realistic consequences of their decisions.

A new day for corporate education has arrived. Far from boring and sterile, this new education can have all the excitement of real business competition. Even Dilbert would love developing his skills this way.
