Minnesota Birth Record

by Rachel Arieff

Minnesota birth records pertain to anyone who was born in the state of Minnesota. Any of these people may, upon request, obtain a copy of their birth certificate from the state of Minnesota. This rule applies even to those who now reside in other states, or even other countries.

Minnesota birth records are housed in governmental offices called "vital statistics" or "birth records" offices. These offices are divided up among county, parish, or borough lines. Thus, to obtain a copy of your Minnesota birth certificate, you will need to get it from the birth records office of the county in which you were born.

Two Options in Obtaining Your Minnesota Birth Records

There are now two options when requesting a copy of your Minnesota birth record. The first way is the traditional method: going through the government. This usually involves contacting the Minnesota Department of Health in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From there, you can receive exact instructions on how to go about applying for your birth record information.

The other way is relatively new, and involves the World Wide Web. Online services now exist that specialize in dealing with state birth records offices in order to obtain birth certificates for those that request them. This is a popular method for people whose time is valuable and would prefer a trusted professional to do the legwork.
