Canker Sore Relief

by Jessica Duquette

Canker sore relief medication should be kept in your medicine cabinet at all times. When you least expect it you could be surprised with another annoying mouth ulcer. The last thing you want is to be unprepared, forcing you to deal with the agony of these irritating sores.

Quick Canker Sore Relief

Many over-the-counter medications promise instant canker sore relief. If you can't wait for the sore to heal on its own which could take up to one week, you have plenty of options that can all be found at the local drug store. Ointments and topical treatments are considered the most useful in the case of a canker sore.

Be sure the treatment you choose contains glycerin and peroxide. Glycerin will protect the canker sore while the peroxide works to fight off the bacteria. Together, these two elements will eliminate the pain and speed up the healing process.

Stubborn Sores

Occasionally, an over-the-counter treatment will not be strong enough to fight the infection. In these cases consult your doctor. He or she will prescribe a steroid-based treatment that will remove any inflammation while at the same time relieve the pain you are feeling.
