Blockbuster DVD Rental

by Jeremy Horelick

If you're tired of your Blockbuster DVD rentals, you're not alone. Most chain stores seem to be well-stocked on movies you wouldn't rent in a thousand years, yet woefully lacking in the quality flicks you're seeking. This is, quite simply, because the video store rental business is designed to match consumers' needs, and John and Jane Q. Public are perfectly content with the same options they saw three months ago in the theaters.

Well if they passed on the theatrical release, what do you suppose they'll do when the DVD of that same film hits the shelves? Sure, there are some film fans who see the ads in the papers and consciously decide "Yup, that's a rental." But by and large, if a theatrical release fails to inspire, you can bet that the DVD follow-up will likely do the same.

Lose the Blockbuster DVD Rental Card

Thanks to Internet technology, it's now safe to tear up your Blockbuster DVD rental card. Online movie rental services have kicked the corporate chains to the curb by offering a better product with better customer service, price, and ease-of-use. Not only can you find all the same movies online that you find in stores, you can also rent TV show DVDs, documentaries, cartoons, and video games.

With that kind of selection, it's a wonder that anyone still shops at the major chain stores. The hangers-on are largely technophobes who don't trust the safety of their credit card information. Of course, these same people rarely consider that the kids working at their local DVD rental store, where they do find it safe to shop, have access to that same sensitive information.
